Steve Gamble

Steve Gamble has been “living the life” of giving since he graduated high school and worked as a resident counselor for ex-convicts in Harlem, New York.

In 1988, Steve and members of his church traveled to the impoverished community of Cuanqua, Ecuador to help residents build a house of worship. For Steve, just sharing time and working alongside these humble people was reward enough, however, the townspeople had something else in mind. As the mission bus started on the long dirt road, they ran alongside the bus expressing their thanks–with tears in their eyes and cries of gratitude from their heart. It is an image that Steve has never forgotten and one that continues to motivate him to this day.

For the next fifteen years, Steve and his wife, Kate, continued to volunteer their time locally and overseas through their church’s Mission Committee. Their commitment ran deep and thus they became co-directors in 2002, responsible for overseeing the distribution of funds to over 50 needy outreaches worldwide.

A year after they became directors, while leading a team of 27 volunteers to bring medical and spiritual relief to Senegal, Africa, Steve and Kate decided to form Heartbeat International. After ten years as directors, Steve and Kate left their church mission in 2012 to focus exclusively on Heartbeat and addressing the issues they felt were most urgent.

No one has a bigger heart and more compassion than Steve Gamble. Until there was space available to support Taste & See, a feeding ministry of Heartbeat, Steve cooked food in his own kitchen in order to feed the homeless and hungry in the South Bronx. It is not an understatement to say that it is Steve’s vision that inspires and fuels each of Heartbeat’s ministries.

Kate Gamble

Wife. Mother. Grandmother. Missionary. Motivational Speaker. Animal Lover.

Kate Gamble lives her life to the fullest by giving and serving others.

She has always believed in the power of second chances. When she experienced hers, she knew that helping others in need of their own second chance was the path to a blessed and abundant life.

In the spring of 2002, Kate joined Steve as Missions Director of their church and began a journey that would take her places she had never dreamed of. “Once you hold a child in your arms that you believe to be an infant but find that, due to malnutrition, she is actually 9-months old, you can’t help but become a different person.”

Kate brings her own experience, strong faith, and unparalleled passion to her current role as Co-Director of Heartbeat International Ministries. Whether teaching women’s workshops in shelters, poor villages, prisons, at home, and as far away as Africa and the Ukraine, her incredible energy helps others find hope in their situation.

A devoted animal lover, Kate hopes to provide shelter to abused and neglected rescue animals on her farm down South. This halfway house will provide a temporary home to animals, saving them from slaughter and unnecessary euthanization.

Kate is looking forward to spending the next chapter of her life organizing more outreaches, feeding more hungry, saving more people and animals, and playing with more grandchildren.

Steve & Kate have six children, ten grandchildren, eight rescue horses, four rescue dogs, two rescue donkeys, a rescue duck, and rescue goats.
